The Barbuda People’s Movement or BPM is a small political party representing the interests of the people of Barbuda and was founded sometime around 1989. The party campaigns for greater autonomy for Barbuda.
The party fought its first election in 1989 and won the single seat representing Barbuda in the 17 seat House of Representatives. The party has won the seat in every election since and in 2004 its member of parliament, Trevor Walker, was appointed to Baldwin Spencer’s United Progressive Party government.
Trevor Walker won again in 2009 and is currently Minister of Works and Transport and Deputy Prime Minister.
