This alliance was part of the Presidential Movement (Mouvance Presidentielle) of the 2003 presidential election.
MADEP first fought in the 1999 general election taking six seats in the 83 seat National Assembly.
In 2003 the party stood as part of the Presidential Movement and took nine seats and in 2007 MADEP was part of the Alliance for a Dynamic Democracy (Alliance pour une Dynamique Démocratie) which won 20 seats in the 83 seat National Assembly.
The President of MADEP is Séfou Fagbohoun a wealthy businessman with support amongst the Yoruba and Nagot ethnic groups.
In the 2006 presidential election the party’s candidate, Antoine Kolawolé Idji, came fifth with 3.25 % of the vote.
