The Bhutan Peace and Prosperity Party or DPT was established on 25th July 2007 as a merger of the short lived All People’s Party and the Bhutan People’s United Party, soon after political parties were allowed in the country. It describes itself as Centre-right and believes in Royalism, Conservatism and Gross national happiness.
In March 2008, the party won 45 of the 47 seats in the National Assembly. It was one of just two political parties standing in that first election.
