The UNDR is led by Saleh Kebzabo and is currently a coalition member with the ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS).
In 1996 Kebzabo stood as the UNDR candidate in the presidential election and took 8.6% of the votes cast in the first round.
In 1997 the UNDR won 15 of the 125 seats in the parliamentary election and in 2002 they won five of the 155 seats available.
In 2001 Kebzabo stood again for the presidential election and took 7% of the vote.
