The Social Movement for Renewal or MSR was founded in March 2006 by Pierre Lumbi. It describes itself as centre-left.
In the 2006 election it took 27 of the 500 seats in the National Assembly, making the fourth largest party in parliament.
In 2007 the party won three of 108 seats in the Senate elections.
