The Independent Democratic Serb Party or SDSS was founded in 1997 in order to organise Serbs from the region of the Croatian Podunavlje. It describes itself as liberal democratic, anti-fascist, social democratic and believes in Serb minority politics.
In 2003 the party took all three seats reserved for Serbs in the 151 member Hrvatski Sabor, beating the Serb People’s Party (SNS).
In 2007 the party retained the three seats and continues to fight for Serb minority rights.
