Published 28th August, 2011

The Red Green Alliance (Party letter – Ø) was founded in 1989 as an alliance between the Communist Party of Denmark (DKP), the Socialist Workers Party (SAP) and Left Socialists (VS). In 1991 they added the Communist Workers Party (KAP) to their alliance. They describe their ideology as socialist, anti-capitalist, eco-socialist and eurosceptic. They are of the far left.

Their first success was in 1994 when they won six seats. In 1998 that dropped to five and in 2001 to four seats. In 2005 they picked up a little with six seats but dropped back to four in 2007. They take between 2.5% and 4% of the national vote.

The Red-Green Alliance are members of the European Anticapitalist Left and Party of the European Left.
