Timorese Social Democratic Association

The Timorese Social Democratic Association or ASDT was founded in 2000 by Francisco Xavier do Amaral. It describes itself as a centre left party and believes in social democracy.
In the 2001 Constituent Assembly election, the party came fourth with six seats in the 88 seat chamber.
In 2007 the ASDT joined forces with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and together they won 11 of the 65 seats in the new National parliament.
