Al-Karama is believed to have been founded originally in 1996 by Hamdin Sabbahy. It is known that it applied for registration in March 2002 and was refused. It is awaiting formal registration having submitted its required papers on 16th August 2011. It describes itself as leftists, socialist, nationalist and pan-Arabist. It believes that the Arab identity is more important than religious identity and wants to see a state where Muslims and Christians have equal rights as Egyptian citizens. It also believes in Nasserism.
Al-Karama is a member of the Democratic Alliance.
