Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction

The Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction or APRC was founded in 1996 to support the candidacy of former coup leader Yahya Jammeh in his presidential bid of 1996.
Yahya Jammeh was subsequently successful in his bid to become president, taking 55.7% of the vote. He went on to win the 2011 election with 52.8% of the vote and the 2006 election with 67.33% of the vote.
The APRC has been similarly successful. They won the 1997, taking 33 of the of the 45 seats in the National Assembly. In 2002 the party won 45 of 48 seats and in the 2007 election they took 42 of 48 seats.
