Innovation and Unity Party

The Innovation and Unity Party or PINU was founded in 1970. It describes itself as Centre-left and believes in Social democracy.
The party did not achieve legal recognition until 1978. Since then it has managed to take between one and four seats in every general election. In 1993 its presidential candidate Olban Francisco Valladares Ordóñez took the party’s best ever presidential result, coming third with 2.83% of the vote. In 2001 the party had its best election result taking four seats in the 128 National Congress.
In 2009 its presidential candidate Bernard Martínez came third with 1.86% of the vote and the party won three of 128 seats.
