Prosperous Justice Party

The Prosperous Justice Party or PKS was founded in April 2002 but was formerly the Justice Party (PK) which had been formed in July 1998. The party is an Islamic party and its ideology is based on Pancasila which has five key strands, belief in the divinity of God, a just and civilized humanity, the unity of Indonesia, democracy and social justice. Its support base is in the major urban areas and especially Jakarta.
In the 2004 legislative elections the PKS won 7.3% of the vote and 45 of the 550 seats in the People’s Representative Council; its leader Hidayat Nur Wahid was elected Speaker.
In the 2009 elections the party won 57 seats and 7.88% of the vote.
The Prosperous Justice Party is believed to have links to the Muslim Brotherhood.
