Combatant Clergy Association

The Combatant Clergy Association or CCA was founded in 1977 by a group of clerics, including the current supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, determined to overthrow the Shah’s regime. They believe in Islamism, conservatism, populism and neo-fundamentalism.

The party came to prominence in the 1988 election when they won 88 of 270 seats in the Majlis. In 1996 they won 110 of 275 seats and in 2000 they won 54 of 290 seats in the Majlis or parliament.
