The Democratic Centre or CD was founded on 28th December 2012 by Bruno Tabacci and Massimo Donadi. The party is made up of factions of the Alliance for Italy (ApI) and Rights and Freedom (DL). It describes itself as a Centrist party and supports the Christian Left as well as believing in Social Liberalism.
In the 2013 general election it decided to join Pier Luigi Bersani’s ‘Italy, Common Good’ coalition and won six of the 630 seats in the Chamber of Deputies.
The Democratic Centre has one of the 73 national seats in the European Parliament.
