Latvian Green Party

The Latvian Green Party or LZP was founded in 1990 as a green political party.
Although it contested the 1993 general election it won no seats and in 1995 it fought the election in alliance with the Latvian National Independence Movement and collectively they won eight seats.
In 1998 the LZP joined forces with the Labour Party and the Christian Democratic Union but won no seats.
By 2002 they had entered into the alliance with the Latvian Farmers’ Union and won 12 seats, increasing this to 18 seats in 2006 and 22 seats (of which they hold 9) in 2010.
The Latvian Green Party are members of the Global Greens and the European Green Party.
