National Alliance

The National Alliance or NA is a nationalist and right wing party which became a recognised party on 23rd July 2011. Prior to that period it had been an alliance of two parties in the 2010 general election where it won eight of the 100 seats in the Saeima. It also has one Member of the European Parliament.

The two parties are:

• All For Latvia! (Visu Latvijai! or VL) is a nationalist party which was formed in 2000but did not become a political party until 2006. It won no seats in the 2006 general election and then joined forces with Fpr Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK in 2010 to fight the general election under the National Alliance banner. All Latvia took six of the eight seats won by the National Alliance in 2010.


• For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK (Tēvzemei un Brīvībai/LNNK or TB/LNNK) describes itself as a free market national conservative party. TB/LNNK was formed in 1997 and was itself a merger of two parties, For Fatherland and Freedom (TB) and Latvian National Independence Movement (LNNK), both of whom had seen better days in the 1990s.

For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK is a member of the Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists.
