National Independent Party

The National Independence Party or NIP was founded sometime before 1993 when Anthony Manyeli and others split away from the Basotho National Party (BNP).

The party scored no seats in the 1993 and 1998 general elections but in 2002 they took five seats in the newly enlarged National Assembly.

In 2007 they had their best election yet when the party took 21 of the 120 seats in the National Assembly and became the second largest party.
