The Democratic Union for Integration or DUI is the largest of the Albanian political parties in Macedonia. It is formed out of the conflict in 2001 between the Albanian National Liberation Army (NLA) and Macedonian security forces.
Having secured constitutional reforms, the leader of the NLA, Ali Ahmet, entered politics and established the DUI in 2002.
In their first electoral test in 2002, the DUI won 11.9% of the vote and 16 seats. They joined the Social Democratic Alliance of Macedonia government as a coalition partner. In 2006 they won 14 seats but were not part of the VMRO-DPMNE government. Again in 2008 they were not part of the new government but they did increase their tally of seats to 18.
