Union for the Republic and Democracy

The Union for the Republic and Democracy was formed in 2003 by the former ADEMA presidential candidate Soumaïla Cissé.

In the 2007 election the party was part of the president’s Alliance for Democracy and Progress(ADP) and won 34 of the 160 seats in the National Assembly, making them the second largest party in the parliament. The party backed Amadou Toumani Touré in the presidential election.
