Social Democratic Party of Montenegro
Published 17th September, 2012
The Social Democratic Party of Montenegro or SDP was founded in 1993 as a merger of a number of tiny regional parties. It describes itself as centre-left and believes in Social Democracy and Left-wing Nationalism.
The SDP fought one election alone in 1996 and failed to win a single seat. In 1998 they joined forces with the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro (DPS) in a Coalition known as ‘So that we live better’. The Coalition was known in subsequent elections as the Coalition for a European Montenegro.
For results of all elections after 1998 please refer to the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro (DPS) entry.
The Social Democratic Party of Montenegro is a member of Socialist International and the Party of European Socialists.
