Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand

The Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand or Green Party was founded in 1972, originally as the Values Party but with little electoral success. In 1989 the Values Party was disbanded and the Green Party was formed in 1990. It believes in green politics and environmentalism.
The Green Party won its first seats in the 1999 general election when it took seven of the 120 seats in the House of Representatives. In 2002 they went up to nine seats, down to six in 2005 and then up to nine again in 2008.
The Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand are members of the Global Greens and the Asia Pacific Greens Network (APGN).
