The Mana Party was founded by Hone Harawira in April 2011 when he broke away from the Māori Party. It describes itself as left wing and believes in indigenous rights and socialism.
Hone Harawira resigned his seat in June and stood in a by-election in his Te Tai Tokerau seat which he retained. The party has one MP in the current 120 seat House of Representatives.
