Social Democratic Rally

The RSD was founded in 2004 as a splinter group from the CDS.
In the 2004 election the RSD took seven out of 113 seats in the National Assembly with 7.1% of the vote. In October 2009 they improved their position by winning 15 seats. In the 2004 Presidential election their candidate having achieved only 6.35% of the vote they decided to back President Tandja Mamadou for a second term. They also supported the President in his constitutional change in 2009 which subsequently led to the February 2010 coup.
The RSD-Gaskiya candidate for the 2011 Presidential election is its President, Amadou Cheiffou.
