People’s Action Party

The People’s Action Party or PAP was founded sometime before the 1987 general election. It describes itself as a centre-right party.

In 1987 the party won 14 of 109 parliamentary seats. From this highpoint the party has declined. In 1992 they won 13 seats, in 1994 that dropped to four seats, and then five seats in 2002. In the 2007 general election the party took six seats.

Currently the party supports Sir Michael Somare.
