People’s National Congress Party

The People’s National Congress Party or PNC was established prior to the 1997 general election by Bill Skate who served as Prime Minister from 1997 to 1999.

In the 2002 general election the party won two seats and in 2007 that went up to five seats in the 109 seat National Parliament.

Bill Skate died in 2006 and leadership of the party was taken over by Peter O’Neill the current, but contested, Prime Minister. Since the split in the government in August 2011 the number of parliamentarians registered with the party has risen to 14 members.
