United Resources Party

The United Resources Party or URP was founded during the 1997 to 2002 parliamentary period by highlander MPs.

In 2001 the party was weakened by defections to the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) and they failed to win any seats in the 2002 general election but by 2003 had attraced a number of independents and their number of parliamentarians went up to nine.

In 2007 the party won five of the 109 seats in the National Parliament but following the split of the coalition government in August 2011 they went up to thirteen MPs.
