A Just Russia or SR, sometimes known as A Fair Russia was founded in October 2006 and was a merger of Rodina, the Russian Party of Life (RPZ) and the Russian Pensioners’ Party (RPP). It merged with six minor parties at a later date. It describes itself as left wing and believes in social democracy.
In the 2003 election the three parties individually had won 36 seats. In their first joint outing in 2007 the new party won 38 seats out of 450 seats in the Duma and 7.74% of the vote.
A year later, in the presidential election, the party decided to support Dmitri Medvedev as their preferred candidate although they oppose the policies of Vladimir Putin.
A Just Russia is a consultative member of Socialist International.
