Liberal Party

The Liberal Party or PL was founded in 1991. It believes in Liberalism.

The party split into two factions in late 1993 and early 1994 and one faction joined the new Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) government.

In 2003 the PL contested the general election as an opposition party and won six of the 80 seats in the newly formed Chamber of Deputies with 10.56% of the vote.

In 2008 the party stood once more as an opposition party and won four of the 80 seats with 7.5% of the vote.

The party supported the RPF candidate, Paul Kagame, in both the 2003 and 2010 presidential elections.
