Samoan Democratic United Party

The SDUP was formed in 2003 from the Samoan National Development Party (SNDP) (originally founded in 1988 and official opposition after the 2001 election) and the Samoan United Independent Party (SUIP).

In 1996 the SNDP won 1of the 49 seats in the Fono and in 2001 they won 13 seats. In 2006 the newly formed SDUP won 10 seats.

Following internal disputes the party to seven MPs and were not recognised by the House. All the remaining members became independent MPs.
