The United Left or SU was founded in 2006 from the splinter groups of a number of left wing parties. It describes itself as left wing and believes in Democratic Socialism and Communism.
In the 2008 general election the United Left was a part of the Reforms and Freedom electoral coalition. It won five of the 25 seats gained by the coalition within the 60 seat Grand and General Council. It is part of the official opposition.
The United Left is a member of the Party of the European left.
