Singapore People’s Party

The Singapore People’s Party or SPP was formed in 1993 largely from defectors of the Singapore Democratic Party. It describes itself as a left of centre, social liberalism party.

In 2001 the SPP was one of the founding members of the Singapore Democratic Alliance, but withdrew on 2nd March 2011. Throughout the history of the party Chiam See Tong, formerly of the SDP has been a leading member and he is currently the sole member of parliament for the party and their leader.
