African Independent Congress

The African Independent Congress or AIC was founded on 12th December 2005. The party was established after Matatiele municipality was included in the Eastern Cape rather than KwaZulu-Natal as a protest against the decision.
It has taken small amounts of votes in local elections, although, because it was focussed on Matatiele it won ten seats in that local community in 2006. It also won one seat in the Eastern Cape provincial legislature in the 2009 elections and seven seats in the Eastern Cape and Kwazulu-Natal in the 2011 local government elections.
In the 2014 general election the party won three of the 400 seats to the National Assembly with 0.53% of the vote.
