The Federal Democratic Union of Switzerland was founded in 1975 from a splinter group of the Evangelical People’s Party of Switzerland and the Swiss Democrats. The describe themselves as christian right, evangelicalism and social conservatism.
Electorally they failed to win any seats in the 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1987 elections. But their perseverence was rewarded with one seat in 1991 and they have maintained that representation ever since (in 2003 they took two seats).
