People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan

The People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan or PDP was established in 1993 as the People’s Party of Tajikistan and subsequently changed its name to the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan in 1998. The party stands for a “sovereign, democratic, secular, socially oriented and unitary state with a stable economy.”
Its Chairman Emomalii Rahmon stood as its candidate in the presidential election in 1999 and won 97.6% of the vote, in 2006 that dropped to 79.3%
In general elections the party has increased its vote every time, taking 36 of the 63 seats in the Assembly of Representatives in 2000; 49 seats in 2005 and 55 seats in 2010.
