Minor Parties

The list of minor parties continues to grow following the January 2011 revolution. At the last count there were around 100 parties which had been recognised in the post revolutionary period with as many as 30 more awaiting recognition. Around 150 parties have had their applications rejected by the Ministry of the Interior.

Those known minor parties which have been recognised are listed below:

• The Patriotic and Democratic Labour Party; Parti du travail patriotique et démocratique (PTPD)

Founded on 1st May 2005 but not recognised. Legally recognised 19th January 2011. Advocates scientific socialism.

Founded and active illegally since 1950 but not recognised. Legally recognised 22nd January 2011. Advocates Socialism and Pan Arabism.

As of 17th June 2012 the former interim Prime Minister Beji Caid Essebsi has announced that he is forming a new party which is to be called “Nedaa Tunis,” or “The Call for Tunisia” party.
