The President is elected by popular vote for a seven year term and may serve a second term.

Bicameral. The Senate has 100 seats of which 84 members are elected by regional governing councils and 16 are appointed by the President to serve five year terms. The Legislative Chamber has 150 seats of which 135 members are elected by popular vote to serve five year terms, while 15 seats are reserved for the new Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan.

The Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2016 places Uzbekistan at joint 156th out of 176 countries with a CPI 2016 score of 21 (where 100 is least corrupt).
