The Nasserite Unionist People’s Organisation or NUPO was founded in 1965 but was not recognised as a legal party until 1989. It describes itself as centre-left and believes in democratic socialism.
In the 1993 general election the party won one of the 301 seats in the Assembly of Representatives. In 1997 that went up to three seats and they managed to retain all three seats in the 2003 election.
