Forum for Democracy and Development

The Forum for Democracy and Development or FDD was one of the parties formed in 2001 as a breakaway group from the MMP and took with it 22 MPs and nine ministers.
In the 2001 election they came third. In the National Assembly they took 12 of 159 seats and their presidential candidate Christon Tembo also came third. The party then split when three of its MPs decided to join the unity government formed by MMD president Levy Mwanawasa.
In 2006 the FDD was deregistered for failing to complete its annual report and it subsequently joined the United Democratic Alliance.
