United Party for National Development

The United Party for National Development of UPND was founded in 1998 and in the 2001 election came second with 49 of 159 seats in the National Assembly. Its presidential candidate and founder, Anderson Mazoka, came a very close second in the presidential election.

Mazoka died in 2006 and subsequently the party became part of the United Democratic Alliance.

The party is an Observer Member of Liberal International and a member of the Africa Liberal Network.
