The election took place in two round, on 5 April and 14 June 2014. In the first round, results were as follows:

Abdullah Abdullah (National Coalition) 45.00%
Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai (Independent) 31.56%
Zalmai Rassoul (Independent) 11.37%
Abdul Rasul Sayyaf (Islamic Dawa) 7.04%
Qutbuddin Hilal (Independent) 2.75%
Gul Agha Sherzai (Independent) 1.57%
Mohammad Daud Sultanzoy (Independent) 0.46%
Hedayat Amin Arsala (Independent) 0.23%

Votes: 7,237,756

In the second round, which took place on 14 June 2014, Abdullah Abdullah received 43.56% of the vote. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai received 56.44% of the vote and was therefore elected president.
