Presidential 2016 (Second round)

The election took place in two rounds, on 24 April and 22 May 2016. However the results of the second round were subsequently overturned due to irregularities and a fresh vote will now take place on 4 December

In the first round, results were as follows:

Norbert Hofer (Freedom Party of Austria) 35.1%
Alexander Van der Bellen (The Greens) 21.3%
Irmgard Griss (independent) 18.9%
Rudolf Hundstorfer (Social Democratic Party of Austria) 11.3%
Andreas Khol (Austrian People’s Party) 11.1%
Richard Lugner (Independent) 2.3%

Registered electors: 6,382,507
Votes: 4,371,825
Turnout: 68.5%

In the second round runoff, which took place on 22 May, Norbert Hofer received 49.7% of the vote. Alexander Van der Bellen received 50.3% and was therefore elected president. Turnout in the second round was 72.7%.
