A general election was held on 20 October 2009 after the dissolution of the National Assembly in May 2009. Six opposition parties boycotted the election, the most notable of which were the CDS-Rahama which took 22 seats in the 2004 election, and PNDS-Tarayya which took 17 seats in the 2004 general election.

Turnout for the election was 51.27% and the results for the 113 seats were:
