Presidential 2004

The first round of the 2004 Presidential election was held on 16th November with voter turnout at 43.8%.

Six candidates stood and the results of the first round were:

Hamid Algabid (RDP-Jama’a) 4.89%
Amadou Cheiffou (RSD-Gaskiya) 6.35%
Moumouni Adamou Djermakoye (ANDP-Zaman Lahiya) 6.07%
Mahamadou Issoufou (PNDS-Tarayya) 24.60%
Mahamane Ousmane (CDS-Rahama) 17.43%
Tandja Mamadou (MNSD-Nassara) 40.67%

The top two contestants went forward to a second round on 4th December. Tandja Mamadou received 65.53% of the vote and Mahamadou Issoufou received 34.47%.

Tandja Mamadou was elected President for a second and final term.
