Parliamentary 2006


Elections for half of the forty member Federal National Council took place in December 2006.

On 16 December elections took place in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah; on 18 December they were held in Dubai and Ras al-Khaimah and on 20 December they took place in the remaining emirates of Sharjah, Ajmān and Umm al-Quwain.

There were approximately 300,000 people over the age of 18, but those allowed to vote were chosen by the rulers of the seven emirates and this amounted to 6,689 voters, of whom 1,163 were women.
