Kansas plus three vote today

Published

Kansas plus three smaller caucuses in Northern Marianas, Virgin Islands and Guam vote in the Republican presidential contest today.

The three smaller contests each select nine candidates in non binding caucuses.

In Kansas the hybrid primary with a complex mix of winner takes all and proportioned district allocations will produce 40 delegates between the candidates. The primary itself has been low key, with no opinion polling to suggest the likely winner. However, Rick Santorum is expected to do well with Mitt Romney trailing him.

The main contest takes place next Tuesday when attention moves to Alabama and Mississippi.

Currently Mitt Romney has 409 delegates from the contest so far. Rick Santorum with 163 delegates is second, Newt Gingrich has 111 and Ron Paul trails on 61 delegates for the main Republican convention in August.
