Pena Nieto increases lead

Enrique Peña Nieto, the candidate of the opposition Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), has opened up a commanding lead according to the latest opinion poll by Buendia & Laredo published in the newspaper El Universal. He now stands on 42.5% of the vote compared with 39% in a February poll.

His main opponent, Josefina Vázquez Mota, of the ruling National Action Party (PAN) is standing on 23.7% a drop from 25% in February.

The other main contender in the presidential election which will be held on 1st July is Manuel López Obrador of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) who is standing at 16.9% in the poll, a slight increase on last month.
