Perez leads in final polls

Published

The Patriotic Party (PP) presidential candidate, former general and often referred to as right wing hard man, Otto Pérez Molina has a commanding lead in the opinion polls as we go into the final days of the campaign.

Otto Pérez Molina has 48.9%, just short of the 50% + that is needed to avoid a second round. His closest rival, Manuel Baldizón of the Independent Block Renewed Democratic Freedom Party (LIDER*) stands at 18.1% of the vote and third party candidate Eduardo Suger of CREO (Commitment, Renewal and Order) is on 11.4% of the vote.

The election takes place on Sunday for both the presidential and congress.

* LIDER is an independent block of 27 deputies in Congress which has allied itself with the Grand National Alliance (GANA). Some news articles refer to it as the Leader Party.
