PP well ahead in final week
Two polls published over the weekend put the opposition centre right Popular Party (PP) well ahead in the final week of the election campaign.
A poll by Metroscopia for the newspaper El Pais gives the Popular Party 45.4% of the vote. That would equate to 192 to 196 Deputies in the 350 seat House of Deputies. If that is true then it would be the largest margin the PP has ever won in an election and would give them an overall majority without having to form a coalition.
In the same poll the ruling Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) is on just 30.9% of the vote.
In a second poll the PSOE do even worse. A Sigma poll in El Mundo gives the PSOE 29.8% whilst the PP takes 47.6%.
