Romney wins New Hampshire

Published

With around 40% of the ballots counted, Mitt Romney, the winner of the Iowa caucus has also won the New Hampshire primary.

Romney has taken, at present, around 37% of the vote and that figure is likely to rise slightly before the final count. His closest rival, Ron Paul, took 24% and John Huntsman is on 17%.

Both Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum are on 10% and will just qualify for delegates at the Republican National Convention.

The Democratic primary was running alongside the Republican primary but with President Barack Obama the only candidate; inevitably turnout was much lower than for the Republican race.
