361 candidates


The registration period for candidates wishing to stand in the 2nd February parliamentary election closed today with 361 candidates coming forward.

There are 332 men and 29 women standing for the 50 seat National Assembly of Kuwait or Majilis Al-Umma. Although political parties are not permitted there are a number of factions represented in the parliament.

Kuwait is split into five electoral district each electing ten members. Each voter can use up to four votes and there are around 400,000 eligible voters.
